Could You Give Me a 5?

Human relationships are very fragile. As someone who has been in and out of many friendships, the things we do to appear polite or be nice is natural. We ask for things that really don't need to be asked for just out of sheer politeness. However, as human relationships develop, a new concept comes into play: a playful "roasting" builds upon them. It's quite complex. I first want to allude to The Office , when Kelly Kapoor enters a loving relationship with Darryll Philbin, Darryll defines his feelings exactly to Kelly, which is quite different than Pinker's claim of humans possessing a natural "vagueness." Kelly even claims that "[Darryll] is the most confusing man I've ever met," simply due to the fact that he "told her exactly what he wanted." This relationship voided the need of "negotiation" Pinker claims that all human relationships undergo. I find that the closer you are with someone, the more demeaning you can ...

No Pane, No Gain

The elegant ocean of trees flooded my eyes as I looked out my car window into the vast North Carolina forest. The lush green provided a movie-esque trip, as the car was silent, the car trudged on the endless highway. Down the long and winding road, my eight year old self watched the trees pass by, and in what seemed like years, as waves of philosophy and thinking raced through my young mind, I thought about the nature of life. Death. The death of a very close person to me. The person who had helped my family set up in America. She always did what was right. Her funeral was in North Carolina. While the lush forests were here, she spent time in the desolate desert of Africa helping the less fourtunate. She came to my baseball ga...

I woke up as usual and yelled to the world, "Good morning world, and all that inhabit it!"I threw up my blanket in excitement and it fell back onto my head. After being temporarily blinded by my sleeping cloth, I fell off my bed and my alarm clock hit me on my face. I fed my pet the food I'd given him for years. Curiously, I stuck my tongue out and tried some of the canned good. It was revolting. Even with the soggy, disgusting taste inside my mouth, I looked up at the clock and realized I was late for work! I grabbed the rest of my belongings and headed out the door and joyfully skipped to my destination. To my surprise, my best friend Satrick greeted me during my playful frolick. At my wonderful place of work-a wonderful hamburger establishment-I met a customer who suggested I wear a nametag so I could be acknowledged for my work. Wtih a little chuckle, I kindly informed him that my name tag was right below my collar and I slowly pointe- It's not there. I p...
