Childhood Toys

Image
I can clearly remember seeing the commercials on TV for the "New and Limited Edition Barbie!" with some amazing  features that the last Barbie didn't have. Taller, longer hair, more makeup, and lets not forget the "neon pink and turquoise blue" house it comes with. These are even more effective when every other girl (or guy I'm not judging here) has a bucket filled with Barbies. As children, we learn that the Barbie also has a companion Ken, the male Barbie doll. Ken is percieved to be "that one really popular white dude at school" or something like that. What both of these dolls both have in common is that role model status that they give children. Ken and Barbie's relationship is like the dream relationship that a little second grader dreams about. In fact, having just watched an episode of Criminal Minds, two co-workers, Penelope and Derek, talk about their dates and their plans for Valentines. When they coincidentially meet on the street...

Sci-(Fi)-Ence is Good?

Movie directors in the current state of entertainment offer a genre that is quite popular: sci-fi, or science fiction. These science fiction movies range from the typical post-disaster world like in John Krasinski's new movie A Quiet Place (which is really good by the way, I'd highly recommend this movie to anyone), to the classic sci-fi movies like The Matrix, E.T , Inception , and many more.      Much as Marie Curie did, she became famous for her discovery of radium. However, "she died a famous women denying her wounds came from the same source as her power." By mentioning this, Chet Raymo implies that the science field, when in the quest for knowledge, is "hemmed with peril." These science movies that are produced and rendered powerful by the millions of people who watch these movies portray a different image. Mad scientists, crazy possibilities, time travel, and so much more. Producers show the hero aspect of these scientists. In his movie, John K...

Charging Milk vs Fearless Oreo

Image
Fearless Girl, a statue in New York, has recieved a lot of controversy, particularly from its connection to the Charging Bull. Many argue Fearless Girl only recieves its power from the Charging Bull, implying the Fearless Girl would be "worthless" without the Bull's postition. Is this the work of people who believe the girl is weak and is deriving its power from the bull, or is this the work of people who believe the girl takes away from the icon that is the Charging Bull?      Instead, I feel as if the works compliment each other, and here's why.      There are many strong duos who were created after the creation of one of the members of a duo. For example a classic combination: cookies and milk. While there are many variations on this combo, the Oreo was created to create a tasty cream and dairy punch in a consumer's mouth. The Oreo motto is even referred to as: Milk's Favorite Cookie . The intent of the Oreo was probably never to ...
